We’ve watched hundreds of contest entry videos since launching Invent the Summer. Most are great, some are not-so-great, and a few are superb! Our Junior and Senior Boards of Engineers compiled a list of essential elements for an excellent entry video.
The 5 elements of a great entry video are:
- Length! Keep it short. Aim for 30-90 seconds. Be sure to practice a few times before you film your video.
- Wow! Factor. Engage the viewers early by showcasing your solution at the very beginning. Then go into details about how you made it, the challenges you faced, and the things you learned.
- Clear Audio. We want to hear you, so speak clearly and try to eliminate any loud background noises.
- Visibility. Make sure we can really see your project. Whether inside or out, pay attention to the lighting of your videos. And film your solution’s action from start to finish.
- Smile! Prove to us that you are not a robot and have fun!
