What is Invent the Summer?
Invent the Summer was created by kids, for kids. We offer free weekly engineering challenges and a chance to win fun prizes throughout the summer.
Every week brings a brand-new build, fresh ideas, and opportunities to experiment, create, and solve problems. Because kids have tested every challenge, they’re guaranteed to be fun.
About Us
Invent the Summer began with a problem every kid understands: boredom.
In 2019, 11-year-old Peter Mok decided to fix it by inventing a device that would turn his bedroom light on and off from the comfort of his bed. When his creation finally worked, something clicked. He felt the spark of empowerment and the curiosity to see how other kids would solve the same challenge.
He looked online for a place where kids could share ideas and build together, but didn’t find one. So he asked if we could create it. We thought we were saying yes to a fun summer project. Instead, we were saying yes to a kid-powered movement that has since grown into a nonprofit inspiring hundreds of young creators every summer.
Our Mission
Our mission is to inspire the next generation of creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and leaders by making STEM accessible, engaging, and fun.
A lot of programs introduce kids to STEM. What makes Invent the Summer different is how we do it. Through real engineering challenges, room for creative freedom, and a community that celebrates effort as much as results, kids build confidence that lasts far beyond the summer.

From Learner to Leader
At Invent the Summer, kids do more than complete challenges. They grow through them.
Our program is built around a pathway where kids begin as curious creators and take on new responsibilities as they get older. They help design challenges, mentor younger students, lead workshops, and eventually teach the next generation of makers.
This path gives kids confidence, leadership experience, and real skills that stay with them long after summer ends.
