What is Invent the Summer?
Invent the Summer was created by kids, for kids. We offer FREE weekly engineering challenges and a chance to win fabulous prizes throughout the summer. And since kids have created and tested all of our challenges, they are guaranteed to be fun!
Are you 12-years-old or younger? Are you creative? Do you like solving problems? Do you enjoy playing with building sets, robots, puzzles, or cardboard boxes? Are you a kid? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are in the right place!
About Us
Identify a problem, and invent a solution. That’s what we’re all about. On a dreary winter afternoon in 2019, 11 year old Peter Mok’s problem was that he was bored silly and dreaming of summer. Long story short, by the end of that day, the idea for Invent the Summer was born. Peter decided to build a program around summer engineering and invention challenges for kids. It would solve a problem for kids who are bored, and for parents who can never seem to come up with an interesting activity for them.
After a successful first year, we turned Invent the Summer into a nonprofit organization and formed the Junior and Senior Boards of Engineers to help us further our mission of inspiring the next generation of creative thinkers, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
Our Mission
Invent the Summer inspires creativity, resourcefulness, innovation, problem-solving, and leadership by engaging kids in design and engineering challenges throughout the summer. We aim to reach students who may not otherwise be inclined or able to participate in a STEM program outside of school, then we help them discover how much fun STEM can be. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers and entrepreneurs. Our programming supports this mission for kids from elementary school through high school.
Support Our Mission
The benefits of STEM education are widely understood. Fortunately, more and more children have access to STEM activities in a school setting every year. Too often though, the experience ends there. Many children don’t see themselves as future engineers, and don’t explore it actively outside of school. STEM is more than just science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM encourages creativity, problem-solving, perseverance, and learning from others. These are essential life skills – regardless of one’s ultimate path.
Our program focuses on outreach from kids, to kids. As far as our participants know, there are no adults involved. This makes the experience less intimidating and can help to spark an interest in STEM that our participants may not otherwise explore.
We can’t do any of this without the help of our generous donors. With your support, we can expand our programming to reach kids around the country from elementary school through high school.
